What's included

• 4-inch (100x100mm) mortised timber posts, treated to Use Class 4 (ground contact), set in 600-750mm post-mix concrete
• Concrete gravel boards, 150mm or 300mm depending on ground contour

• Feather-edge closeboard timber cladding, treated to Use Class 4, overlapped by 20mm

Pricing

Standard 1800mm closeboard on a sheltered garden boundary: £75-95/m installed. Add £4-6/m for 125mm heavy posts on exposed orchard-boundary runs (Preston, Staple, Wickhambreaux marsh side). Concrete gravel boards included as standard. Old-fence removal included on runs replacing an existing boundary.

Timing

A typical 20m rear-boundary closeboard run: 1.5-2 working days. Longer orchard-boundary runs (60m+) scheduled across a week to let post-mix cure before the panel goes on. Repairs and single-panel swaps: same-week callout.

Wingham-specific notes

Chalk substrate. Past the ridge on the Preston Road and Staple sides, the topsoil thins to 400-600mm and you hit chalk. See Downland chalk and post concrete - the install-day sequence changes on chalk sites.

Working life. 20-25 years on a sheltered garden boundary with proper gravel boards. 15-20 years on exposed orchard runs.
